North Pole to Equator is an illustrated collection of Brehm's public lectures, first published posthumously in German in 1890. In his Introductory Essay, J. Arthur Thomson proclaimed that Brehm's "merit is that he had seen more than most of us, and had seen, above all, the naturalist's supreme vision - the vibrating web of life" (p. xxix).
